The origin of the London Hunt and Country Club began in 1843 with British troops permanently stationed in London (Ontario) following the Crown’s successful suppression of the Upper Canada Rebellion insurrection of 1837.  Those ensuing years revealed little demand for further military intervention, and thus, to stave boredom, cultivated a significant interest among the stationed officers in the classic old-world hobbies of tennis, shooting and golf, ultimately leading to the official establishment of The London Hunt & Country Club in March of 1885.  The future of this original course, constructed on land leased from Western University, was to be mortally threatened by University expansion and by the 1950s, the Club was forced to relocate.   Harnessing an appreciable depth of stature and resource, the Club sourced land in nearby Byron and in 1957, commissioned the eminent golf course architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr. to execute the design.  Twelve years later, the Club would act on its decision to enter the public sphere and entertain elite tournament competition by hosting the Arnold Palmer and Jimmy Demaret commented 1969 Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf.   Though the days of polo and fox hunting have ceased, the Club has continues to celebrate a legacy of storied legacy and timeless tradition.
